CVE-2026-106931: SiteGuard Server Edition OS Command Injection Allows Root Compromise

E-guardian SiteGuard Server Edition versions 2.20 through 8.00 contain an OS command injection flaw that allows a local attacker with low privileges to execute arbitrary commands as root or SYSTEM. This is actively exploited and requires immediate patching per CISA BOD 26-04 guidance.

Share

A command injection vulnerability in SiteGuard Server Edition allows an attacker to run arbitrary OS commands with elevated privileges. The flaw spans multiple version branches (2.20–3.10, 2.20–7.00, 2.20–8.00, and 4.10–8.00), making it a widespread risk in older deployments. CISA has listed this as actively exploited.

How the attack works

The application fails to properly sanitize user input or configuration parameters before passing them to OS command execution functions. An attacker with local access and low privilege level can inject shell metacharacters or additional commands into a vulnerable parameter, causing the application to execute those commands with root or SYSTEM privileges.

Who is affected

Organizations running E-guardian SiteGuard Server Edition versions 2.20 through 8.00 are affected. This includes legacy and current deployments across all documented version ranges.

Affected products listed:

  • E-guardian Siteguard (from 2.20, before 8.00)
  • E-guardian Siteguard (version 8.00)
  • E-guardian Siteguard (from 2.20, before 7.00)
  • E-guardian Siteguard (version 7.00)
  • E-guardian Siteguard (from 2.20, before 3.10)
  • E-guardian Siteguard (from 4.10, before 8.00)

How to check if you're exposed

  • Scan for SiteGuard installation and verify version by checking application version files or admin console
  • Check if system is running any version from 2.20 to 8.00 (all branches listed in NVD)
  • Review SiteGuard process logs for suspicious command execution patterns or privilege escalation attempts
  • Monitor for local user activity escalating to root/SYSTEM via SiteGuard processes

How to fix it

  • Upgrade to the latest patched version of SiteGuard Server Edition beyond 8.00
  • Apply vendor-supplied patches and follow CISA BOD 26-04 remediation timelines
  • If patches are unavailable, discontinue use or isolate the system from untrusted local users

If you can't patch yet

  • Restrict local access to the SiteGuard Server to trusted administrators only
  • Monitor SiteGuard process execution and audit logs for anomalous command patterns
  • Run SiteGuard in a sandboxed environment with minimal privilege escalation paths if isolation is necessary
