SiteGuard Server Edition's command injection flaw occurs in a code path accessible to authenticated local users. The vulnerability allows injection of arbitrary OS commands that execute with the service's elevated privileges. This is actively exploited and affects all documented versions from 2.20 through 8.00, with patched versions beyond 8.00 available.

## How the attack works

The application does not properly sanitize user input before passing it to OS command execution functions. A local attacker with low-level account access can craft malicious input containing shell metacharacters or command separators. These are passed directly to the underlying OS without escaping or validation, causing the injected commands to execute with the privileges of the SiteGuard process (typically root or SYSTEM).

## Who is affected

E-guardian SiteGuard Server Edition from version 2.20 through version 8.00 is vulnerable. Organizations running any version in the 2.20–7.00 range or version 8.00 exactly are at immediate risk.

**Affected products listed:**

- E-guardian Siteguard (from 2.20, before 8.00)
- E-guardian Siteguard (version 8.00)
- E-guardian Siteguard (from 2.20, before 7.00)
- E-guardian Siteguard (version 7.00)
- E-guardian Siteguard (from 2.20, before 3.10)
- E-guardian Siteguard (from 4.10, before 8.00)

## How to check if you're exposed

- Scan asset inventory for E-guardian SiteGuard Server Edition installations and record version numbers
- Check if version is between 2.20 and 8.00 inclusive; any match indicates exposure
- Review local user account access logs for authentication events to SiteGuard processes
- Monitor system logs and security event feeds for OS command execution anomalies from the SiteGuard service account

## How to fix it

- Upgrade to a patched version beyond 8.00 as released by E-guardian
- If versions 2.20–7.00 or 8.00 are in use, apply vendor-supplied patches immediately per BOD 26-04 guidance
- Restrict local login access to SiteGuard hosts to authorized administrators only

## If you can't patch yet

- Isolate SiteGuard Server Edition instances on segmented networks with restricted local access controls
- Monitor and log all process execution on SiteGuard hosts; set alerts for unexpected command execution originating from the SiteGuard service account
- Disable or revoke non-essential local user accounts that could reach the vulnerable component
